WATER WALK

Walking on the water

PROJECT INTRO

WATER WALK

WaterWalk is a sculpture and a viewing pavilion at Jebu Island that is well known for sea-parting phenomena twice a day. Positioned in the sea, at the starting point of this miraculous sea-road, the sculpture serves as a gateway to Jebu Island. When high tide the deck of the sculpture touches the water surface, giving visitors the awe-inspiring walking on the water experience. At low tide, the viewing pavilion allows the visitors to observe the sea-road appears with the vast mudflats.

“WaterWalk blur the boundaries between landscpae and architecture.”

44-meter long and 10-meter high structure camouflaged with the undulating anodized aluminum surface that reflects and projects changing environment such the weather and the tide. The sculpture is blended in completely with the seascape as it has been a part of the landscape art.
Hwasung city, the client, aimed to support the local community’s touristic business with attracting more visitors to Jebu Island with an artistic landmark. However, the new installation should not disrupt the views of the island.
WaterWalk project is in between art and architecture. The architect tired to create the art piece that visitors can experience and contemplate the art of nature in a new perspective.
